Situated in the Thrupps Centre just off Oxford road Illovo, Plaka is not your everyday burger and chips restaurant. Plaka serves the best from Greece and is open for Lunch and Dinner 7 days a week. With main course between R49 and R100 you will be tempted to try everything on the menu. Plaka also offers you the option of bringing your own wine at a corkage fee of R40 for wines, R60 for local sparkling wine and R150 for champagne.

Plaka’s interior designers need a definite pat on the back they have created a soothingly fresh atmosphere without a lot of “ingredients”, the decor is very minimalist, but it works very well with the surroundings. Light blues, greens and white fill the restaurant with beautiful painting on the walls.

The services is brilliant and the food is the best part of the experience. I would recommend the Meze platters, if it’s your first time trying something like that the waiters are all very knowledgeable and there to assist you with your choices. The halloumi is definitely one of the best in Joburg as well as the calamari dishes along with some amazing Tzatziki dips. According the Plaka website their Signature dishes are the line fish that is grilled whole on an open flame; the prawns; and the kleftico, which succulently melts in your mouth which I most definitely cannot agree with more!

With Baklava, Grilled Halva and Traditional Greek yoghurt on the menu eating dessert is also a must!
